Hey Everyone! Its been a little over a month since I updated and there have been a few things going on in the wonderful world of Phillip :0) At the beginning of this month Phillip had to have dental surgery and it ended up being quite extensive. We thought he was just going to have some fillings done and a couple of baby teeth pulled. It turned out though that he had to have 7 teeth pulled - one being a permanant tooth and a couple of fillings as well. I felt horrible. Basically it was my fault - not for not taking good care of his teeth as far as cleaning them - but because of giving him soda all the time. Apparently letting him drink soda all the time is what is decaying his teeth. He always has a cup of soda (sprite - not dark soda- but still soda) - and the dentist said that its like constantly pouring sugar on his teeth. He said it was very important that we get him off of the soda - that he can have it with meals but not to let him have it all day long in a cup. Well - he already borders on being dehydrated all the time anyway - and now I have to limit his intake of Sprite... NOT looking forward to this feat - and so far its NOT going well. He is only drinking his soda at his meals and nothing else. We have tried milk, apple juice, water, water, water.... I am just praying that eventually he gets tired of being thirsty and will start drinking something else. He used to drink chocolate milk, water, soda, tea, apple juice, strawberry banana v-8 Smoothie.. all kinds of stuff. One of the 'lovely' things about Autism is that children tend to stop doing things that they used to do - OR they will fixate on one particular food/drink item. So we are trying to convince him that other drinks are ok, again.
After the dental surgery we have had several visitors staying with us - which Phillip absolutely LOVES! Our cousin Brittany came down and stayed for a couple of days - and they played, watched tv, snuggled, rode the 4-Wheeler, played on the playground, jumped on the trampoline, and just generally had a good time. Phillip loves his BeBe very much (and so do we!) There were lots of pictures taken (which I will add to his photo album when I get my hands on them) and lots of junk food eaten. ;o) Then our other cousin Briana came down for about 5 days and Phillips favorite thing to do with Briana.. ?? Wake her up! Lol Briana likes to stay up late and sleep late - and Phillip doesnt like that mess. haha. If he wakes up in the middle of the night when Briana is here - he gets up and goes to her bed and snuggles up with her. 1/2 the time he runs her off of whatever she happens to be sleeping on (usually the couch) but he usually just follows her. ;o) He loves his Briana. (and so do we!)
While Briana was here - Phillips Papa had a new baby born - a little boy named Talon Levi. Phillip is now the big brother of 4 girls and one bouncing baby boy. I cannot wait for him to meet his little brother (they live several hours away and Phillip doesn't get to see them often) - as he LOVES babies! He will be so tickled to see him and give him kisses on his head and point out his fingers, eyes, nose, and mouth (thats his favorite thing to do with babies). He will probably hold his hand and make Talon give him a "Hi-5".. cause EVERYONE needs to give Phillip Hi-5!
So as far as this "maybe seizure" goes - he was at school after sleeping all night the night before - and one minute he was sitting in his seat hugging one of his friends - and the next he was fast asleep sitting UP in his chair. This is NOT typical for Phillip. 1) he usually doesn't sleep at school after sleeping all night the night before 2) he doesn't fall asleep sitting up 3) he doesn't just fall over asleep from one minute to the next The rest of the day he was 'off' and the first thing he did when he got home from school was ask me if I was ok. (which is usually his way of saying "something isn't right with me") He laid around all evening and went to bed at normal time and was ok the next day. Not sure if this was actually a seizure or not - but the signs kinda point to it. So I logged it on Seizuretracker.com and will speak to the dr about it later this week.
Speaking of Dr appt's this week he has a follow up with the dentist (he still has some pretty big holes in his gums :( ) and then on Wednesday we travel to Duke for a neurology appointment. It has been a few months since we went down there - it was nice not to be down there for a few months. Sometimes it seems like we are there all the time. January 21st was his last convulsive seizure and I am SO on edge that it is going to happen again soon. I just pray and try to go on without over thinking about it. And try to be thankful for every day that he is seizure free - and more than that - every day that we are HOSPITAL free!!
THE COOLEST THING happened at school the other day!! I dropped him off late after he was up 1/2 the night - and when he got to school it was writing time. That day he got to get on the computer and decide what he wanted to "write" about - and it was "Ni Hao Kai Lan" at the Beach. Well his writing mostly consisted of just random letters but then at the end... he typed: pppppplllllllllhhhhhhhhhhhpppppppi !!!!!!!!!!!!! OK - maybe that doesn't mean anything to you - but look closely - thats the letters in Phillip's name! And he did those letters without anyone saying "Now type P, H, I..." and without anyone saying "Ok, put your name now" I am SO thrilled at this accomplishement. No, its not in order, and yes its more P's L's, and H's than he needs - BUT its the fact that hes grasping the concept that matters! **Doing a happy dance in my chair as I type** This is ONE PROUD MAMA!!! And I hope that his teachers are proud too - because without them - we wouldn't be close to where we are now! I am so thankful for wonderful, fabulous, caring, giving teachers! ((Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!))
Ok, I think thats all for now. I am off to try and update some of his other stuff on here. Thanks for reading. As always - please pray for Phillip to continue being convulsive seizure free - or even completely seizure free!,
