Last night I decided it was time for Phillip to go back to sleeping in his own bed. After about a year of sleeping various other places in the house.... I have taken all the safety precautions I can for him to sleep in there. He has an Emfit repetetive movement monitor, a rail on his bed so he can't fall out during a seizure (or otherwise), and a night light for comfort....
Attempt #1 - I said Phillip tonight you are going to sleep in your big boy bed - in Phillips room, in Phillips bed. He said "BIG BOY!" (Yay - loving the use of BIG!) and we grabbed a cup, a kindle, and a blanket and off we went. He stood on the edge of the bed- counted 1, 2, 3 GO! and jumped in bed... I covered him, gave him love, and walked out..... He stayed.... until the Kindle died....
Attempt #2 - the same process only no kindle... he stayed.... for 35.2 seconds or so.
Attempt 3-12 - no talking from Mom only taking him back to his room and helping him get in bed and cover up (he still had to jump in after counting 1,2,3 GO!) and he stayed... the same amount of time as attempt #2.
Attempt 13 - Phillip came out... with a blanket over his head and tried to walk right past me - I think he was trying to be a ghost, or invisible-- he knew I was sitting there but he walked right on by without a word - heading towards my room... I had to laugh- especially when i pulled the blanket off his head and he laughed and tried to make a run for it. Lol! Hes a mess
Attempt 14 - Phillip came out saying "potty, potty!" and fervently waving his potty signing hand around (the sign for potty is a T in sign language - shaken back and forth) as if he couldn't hold it another minute. So off to the potty we went. Then he needed Lacey (his service dog)-- and I gave him a stuffed puppy too - for good measure.... he stayed... until Lacey came out a few minutes later (shes not used to sleeping in there, either... ug)
Attempt 15 - this time he needed a drink "cup, cup, cup" he says - all the while signing drink, drink, drink.... and then hugs. Then back to bed we go 1,2,3 GO! jump in, lay down, curl in a ball, cover up, check for a puppy.... he stayed.... until he needed another hug. *sigh* Who can say no to Phillip hugs??
Attemp 16 - he was wearing down (and running out of excuses)... One more hug, one more jump into the bed, one more drink, one more silent prayer (from Mom) for a good night sleep and no more trips out of bed from Phillip.... and he stayed..... until 8:30 this morning!!
VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tonight I imagine we'll have to do the whole thing over again - but maybe, just maybe... he'll stay.... after attempt #15. :-)
Life is good when you have a perfectly, perfect Phillip to give you hugs and entertainment. :)
